HISTORY

Primero Ranch retains the name of the Colorado Iron and Fuel coal mine that was established in

1901 and closed in 1928 after several explosions and many fatalities.

The remains of the mine and the foundations of many of the company buildings and miners housing

can still be seen on lot 69 owned by Vernon Williams.

There is another link on that website to a map of old Primero Town with a fascinating interactive map

showing

photographs of the old buildings including the catholic and Protestant churches.
